Backgammon — Privacy Policy

Last updated 9 October 2026

Backgammon is a board game. It works offline, it has no accounts to create, and it asks for nothing about you that the game does not need. This page explains the little that does leave your device, and why.

Who we are

Backgammon is published by Sapphire Tech Solutions. If you have a question about anything here, email hello@sapphiretechsolutions.com.

What stays on your device

Most of what the app knows about you never leaves your phone. Saved games, your statistics, achievements, match history, daily-challenge progress and streaks, purchased themes, and every setting are stored locally in the app's own container and in its private preferences. We cannot see any of it.

What leaves your device

Game Center and online play

Online play is built on Apple's Game Center. If you sign in and play online, the app stores the following in its own cloud database so that ranked play and the leaderboard can work:

Your rating is also submitted to a Game Center leaderboard, which Apple operates. Apple's own privacy policy covers Game Center itself, including your nickname, friends and Game Center achievements.

If you never sign in to Game Center and never play online, none of this happens.

iCloud backup of your statistics

Members who subscribe to Pro get their statistics backed up and synced across their devices. That copy is written to the private area of iCloud belonging to your own Apple Account. It is end-to-end your data: we have no way to read it, and deleting the app or signing out of iCloud takes it with you.

Advertising

The free version of the app shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To serve them, Google's advertising SDK collects the usual advertising signals from your device:

DataUsed for
Device advertising identifier (IDFA)Ad personalisation and measurement — only with your permission, see below
IP address, and the approximate region derived from itServing ads relevant to your country and preventing fraud
Which ads you saw and tappedMeasuring and billing ads
Crash, performance and diagnostic dataKeeping the ads SDK working

The first time you open the app, iOS asks whether you allow tracking. That prompt is Apple's App Tracking Transparency.

You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Google's handling of this data is described in its privacy policy and in how Google uses data from apps that use its services.

Subscribing to Pro or Premium removes every ad, and with them all of the collection in this section.

Purchases

Themes and subscriptions are sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells the app only whether you are entitled to what you bought. We never see or store your card details, billing address, or Apple Account.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily-challenge reminder, the app schedules a local notification on your device at the time you choose. It is created and delivered entirely on the phone. No server is involved and we are not told whether you opened it.

Children

Backgammon is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The app has no chat, no user-generated content, and no way to contact another player outside Game Center.

How long we keep things

Your player profile — identifier, display name, rating, wins and losses — stays in our database while you play ranked games, so that your ladder position survives between sessions. Open lobby challenges are deleted within minutes. Everything else is either on your device or in your own iCloud, and goes when you delete the app.

Your choices and rights

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it and the new version is published here before the release that relies on it.
